Sharjah: Maid gets death sentence for killing 9-month-old baby

The 28-year-old Indonesian woman charged with beating the 9-month-old girl, Salama, was sentenced to death by the Sharjah Criminal Court for the incident in July last year.
The court issued its verdict yesterday, unanimously, after hearing the testimony of the father, mother and maid.

Sharjah’s public prosecution had charged the maid with premeditated murder for beating the infant, throwing her down on the floor, and then hitting her head with a bat used to kill house flies. The girl sustained fractures on her skull and later died due to her injuries at a hospital, according to the prosecution.

The girl was declared dead later after she remained for days in the hospital receiving treatment for about ten days in the ICU. She had bruises on her face and head and died of heart and lung failure. The medical team tried to revive her and provide her with help for about forty minutes, but she died.

Salim Issa Al Mazmi, the father of Salama, confirmed that he is satisfied with the court’s ruling, stating that it’s only fair she gets what she deserves after the investigations took place over the past months.
