The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, FBMA, has organised the fourth edition of the ‘Ramadan Tournament for Ladies’ in both volleyball and football and an additional ‘Fittest Group’ challenge, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, held at the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club sports facilities.
The tournament was traditionally known to be open for female employees of government organisations. However, with the high demand and interest in participation, the organisers decided to open the registration to the general public, which resulted in multiplied numbers of registers.
The volleyball tournament saw the participation of 12 teams. ‘Al Jawhara’ team won in first place with a prize of AED10,000; the ‘ADNOC’ team came in second place winning AED7,000, and in third place ‘The Stars’ with a winning of AED5,000. The amateur teams brought a highly competitive spirit with highly impressive performance levels.
The tournament concluded on Wednesday after the final football match between 12 teams took part in the two-day football tournament with the three winning teams. In first place ‘Strikers team’ with winnings of AED10,000, ‘Stars team’ in second with AED7,000, and ‘Dubai team’ in third with AED5,000.
The Fittest Group challenge took place on Monday; it consisted of many challenges that the teams of four took on. Relay running, rope pulling, basketball drills and fitness challenges all made up the programme for the evening. Registration fees will be donated to the Pink Caravan by the organisers.
Already established as a tradition, the FBMA organisers have ensured that the sporting event will take place next year, as an ever-evolving project providing an active, fun and Ramadan filled spirit of participation.
