A family Iftar ended yesterday evening with the tragedy of two children -both aged younger than three- drowning, in a pool in one of the villas in Mirdif district of Dubai, where they sneaked out and disappeared while the family was having Iftar inside the house on the sixteenth day of Ramadan.
“The children, a two-and-a-half years boy and one-and-a-half-year-old girl ate their food and then went out and disappeared,” Ahmed Essa Al Hamadi, their uncle, said. The family began searching for them, and found that they drowned in the swimming pool, and immediately tried recovering them.
He explained that his sister, who lives in the Emirate of Ajman came for a family visit to her sister in Dubai for Iftar together, while the children were having fun with the rest of family children and then sneaked out at Iftar time without any one seeing them.
The ambulance and rescue personnel immediately tried to treat the children and CPR was provided for both of them. The girl’s condition was critical as her death was announced at the scene. The boy was taken to Latifa Hospital in Dubai but later died.
He pointed out that he was not present at the time of the incident and that his brother contacted him and informed him that their sisters had lost their children in a tragic incident.
He said ‘Suad’ was the only child of her parents, while ‘Shihab’ had a younger sister and three older siblings. His family was devastated by the death of their father five months ago and another death in the extended family about two weeks ago.
“My daughter Suad died in the swimming pool and no one could have saved her life because everyone was away. They did not pay attention to her,” the girl’s father stated. “This is a warning to every parent not to leave their young children without close supervision inside and outside the house.” he added.
