Four students, studying electronics engineering at Sharjah’s Higher College of Technology, have created a smart school bus system that makes the school bus safer for students and drivers as well as prevents forgetting students in school buses.
Fatima Rashed, Fatima Obaid, Wafaa Al Ali, and Aya Al Marzouki said that the safe bus project has four safety features: first to check the health of the driver by measuring pulse rate, using sensors to read the heartbeat, so in emergencies, the device sends an SMS to the concerned authorities, such as police and ambulance, and identifies the bus location.
The second feature is to control the bus door via the driver’s voicecommand, so that no student can open the door.
The third is to make sure that no student or child is forgotten in the school bus, using weight sensors so that after all the students step down and the bus is closed system is programmed at a minimum child weight to distinguish between the weight of the child and the weight of the school bag and determines whether there is a child forgotten on the bus. Thesystem opens the bus windows to allow air to reduce the thermal shock on the student or child.
The fourth feature is to monitor the movement of the students on the bus, usingultrasonic sensor, so that the system generates an alarm to alert the student or the driver of the danger of movement.
