A British tourist who committed more than AED170,000 worth of traffic violations with a rented Lamborghini in only 3 and a half hours, paid AED123,000 to the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai Police as part of the fines due with a 50% reduction.
The tourist rented the car from a car rental office and drove it at high speeds on Sheikh Zayed Road and other streets. The 25-year-old tourist regretted his reckless behavior, explaining that he couldn’t resist the temptation to speed with such a car.
The owner of the rental company, Mohammed Ibrahim, resorted to the media announcing the problem caused by the tourist and demanding the General Directorate of Traffic in Dubai Police to order him to pay those violations, noting that the company suffered during the last days, because of the detention of the car, pointing out that the car is in the tourist’s possession from July 31 to Thursday August 16, and the rent per day is AED6500 dirhams, totaling about AED97,000.
He added that initial negotiations were carried out between the office and the tourist in the beginning to resolve the problem and return the tourist’s passport to him, but the company was requires to pay the violations first because it is a public right. Therefore, the company filed a complaint against him.
He pointed out that the British visitor paid AED66,880 yesterday for 36 speed violations, in addition to AED50,500 as a compensation car detention, required as a result of exceeding 200 km/hr after 50% was deducted from the compensation, which was initially AED100,000.
