ADP warns against credit card scanning theives

Abu Dhabi Police has warned against credit cards scanning by thieves, pointing out that security breaches outside the country have been discovered, which leak and penetrate the data of bank customers, after the spread of viral videos on the Internet showing withdrawals of money only by scanning credit cards from the back pockets of the victims, without touching their cards or the victim sensing theft during shopping.

Colonel Omran Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Director of Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed that no such theft has been reported, explaining the possibility of thieves withdrawing from victims’ bank accounts as soon as they passed close by with their machine without touching the credit card, using a magnetic code that is used by some local and global banks.

Col. Omran called the public to beware of this technology, especially when they are abroad, as thieves can use this trick to convert PIN codes from secure and encrypted to open and accessible.
