Saudi public prosecutor seeks death penalty against five suspects in Khashoggi murder

Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor announced today that a death penalty was requested for five individuals charged in connection with the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Jamal Khashoggi had disappeared after entering the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul on October 2.

Highlights of Public prosecutor’s statements:

– 11 people were charged in Khashoggi’s murder case,  death penalty is demanded for five of them who were charged with ordering and committing the murder.

– Former deputy chief of intelligence, ordered Khashoggi to be returned to Saudi Arabia from the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

– Khashoggi was killed after a fight, being tied down and injected with narcotic substance.

– Khashoggi’s body was dismembered after he was murdered and moved out of the consulate.

– The leader of the assigned team to convince Khashoggi to return home took the decision to kill him and gave a false report on Khashoggi.

The prosecution’s spokesperson added that Saudi Arabia has asked Turkey to provide the kingdom with the evidence and voice recordings relating to the case, and they are still waiting for Turkey to oblige to their request.
