Sharjah: Arab man on trial for harassing a woman, asking for her number

The Sharjah Misdemeanor Court has received the case of an Arab man who was accused of harassing an Arab woman, and asking for her phone number while they were together in an elevator.

The complainant testified before the judiciary that the accused had taken the elevator with her on 20th of October 2018, and asked for her phone number, when she told him that she was married, he repeated his request. The woman stated that she got very scared when the accused deliberately touched her shoulder on her way out of the elevator.

In response to the accusation, the defendant admitted to asking for her number, and denied her statement that he had repeated his request when he learned that she was married. The defendant also denied touching her when she was leaving the elevator.

The victim later confirmed that she did not want to pursue the complaint against the accused. The case was adjourned until 9th of January for ruling.
