6.1-magnitude earthquake hits eastern Indonesia

A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Indonesia at 12:33 pm (0033 GMT) Friday, authorities said.

National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said the 26-kilometre-deep earthquake did not cause a tsunami.

According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, DPA, “Officials have not reported any deaths or injuries from the quake.”

“The epicentre was 55 kilometres south-east of South Manokwari in West Papua province,” DPA added.
