The Embassy of the Republic of India has warned individuals, especially Indian citizens, of spam calls using its name and requesting a deposit of funds in multiple accounts not owned by the embassy, the callers have been found to claim that the victims have been accused of violating labor laws, with the intention of scaring them into depositing the money.
The embassy stated on its website and its accounts on social networking sites that the embassy does not follow this approach in contacting individuals, whether they are Indian citizens or other nationalities, and does not ask any person to deposit any money by phone or in any other way.
The embassy identified some of the phone numbers received through complaints from individuals using the name of the embassy (04-397 1222, 04-397 1333, 02-449 2700)
And it also advised individuals to contact the embassy by the email: hoc.abudhbai@mea.gov.in. If you receive a call, contact the embassy and provide the caller’s phone number and all other details.
