Abu Dhabi: GCC national on trial for insulting hospital employee

The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal scheduled a ruling on July 27 for the case of a GCC national charged with assaulting an Arab employee while on duty.

Details of the case reveal that the accused took his three-year-old daughter to a hospital for emergency treatment. After entering the reception, the nurse made several attempts to retrieve a blood sample from the girl. However, his attempts were unsuccessful and the child’s condition worsened. The father started insulting the employee.

The Court of First Instance sentenced the defendant to one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 dirhams, and ordered the suspension of the sentence of three years with the imposition of the fine.

The defendant’s lawyer, Ali Hassan Al Hammadi, pointed out that the complainant answered with “yes” in the prosecution’s investigation when asked whether his intentions behind suing were financial, and that he had previously received a large sum of money in a previous case, noting that he asked for AED 100,000.
