Abu Dhabi: Young man on trial for setting a car on fire, assaulting an employee

The Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal has received the case of a young man accused of stealing a vehicle, changing its license plates, deliberately setting it on fire and assaulting an official while on duty.

During the hearing, the court confronted the defendant with charges against him, which included illegally using controlled medicine (methamphetamine), driving under influence, intentionally setting fire to a car owned by others, assaulting a government employee and preventing him from performing his work.

The accused denied all charges against him, pointing out that he was beaten by the government employee, asking for the court’s compassion, especially after the court of first instance punished him with three years imprisonment.

The defendant’s lawyer contradicted the testimony of the only witness in the case (the government employee), noting that he admitted in the police record that he wasn’t injured from the defendant’s assault, but reported an injury 24 days after the incident.
