Two Asians attempt to bribe a policeman with Dhs100,000

The Sharjah Criminal Court postponed a case in which two Asians were charged with attempting to bribe a policeman with Dhs100,000 in order to arrest a person.

The defendants confessed to the charges before the Public Prosecution.

The first defendant admitted that he had offered a bribe of Dhs100,000 to the policeman who was on duty, while the second acted as a mediator to help him give the bribe to the policeman.

Facing charges of bribing a public official while on duty, the first defendant confessed that he knew a person abusing drugs, and told his friend “the second defendant” about that.

The latter told him that he knew a police official, who could arrest that person in return for a sum of money, and he would help him give the money to the policeman. Accordingly, the first defendant gave him Dhs50,000 to give it to the policeman.

However, the second defendant denied the charges against him, stressing that his confessions before the Public Prosecution were the result of fear, because it was the first time he was being interrogated and appearing before an investigative body.

The Sharjah Criminal Court ordered the adjournment of the hearing to Oct.13 to hear the witness’ statements.
