As many as 1900 school bus drivers in Dubai have benefited from a series of awareness lectures organised by the Department of Campaigns and Traffic Awareness at Dubai Police.
The director of Dubai Traffic Police, Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, said the lectures aim to focus on a number of important awareness points concerning the safety of school buses and their drivers to raise their competence, qualify them to deal with different situations and enable them to intervene and deal with emergency situations effectively.
“It is essential to achieve the highest levels of traffic awareness among this segment as their role in maintaining the safety of students is crucial, and this will surely contribute to reducing traffic accidents.” Al Mazrouei added.
The director of the Dubai Traffic Police pointed out that the lectures, which were carried out at the GEMS Wellington Academy, have benefited around (1900) school bus drivers from the school transport company (STS). “During the lectures, STS school bus drivers reviewed safety procedures, local traffic laws and regulations, and the importance of adhering to speed limits” “The lectures also elaborated on risk-free means to board and exit school buses, as well as the proper seating layouts. It also highlighted the direction provided to school bus drivers to stop at designated locations, the importance of triggering the stop enrol on the side of the bus, and means to make certain that pupils are boarding and also going out buses safely.” Al Mazrouei added.
The lecture is part of the ‘Traffic Safety Campaign for School Students’ program, which aims to assess the behaviour of bus drivers through a responsible partnership, with the aim of achieving highest levels of traffic safety in order to save lives and properties and make the highest success rates in reducing the number of road traffic deaths.
