The Dubai Criminal Court looked into the case of a Gulf visitor who barged into an hotel room and sexually harassed a female guest. He has been charged with sexual harassment and assault.
The victim, an European tourist, said that she had just returned from the market with her friend, and they let the door close automatically, but were shocked by someone entering the room with his friend and who prepared himself a cup of coffee and acted as if it was his own room. He started asking them some questions, demanding to know their nationalities but the victim requested the defendant to leave the room but he refused and sat in the corridor.
He stood up when he saw their third friend coming out of the bathroom and said he would take a shower with her. Her friend intervened and helped her push him outside the room and locked the door. The defendant tried to push open the door again but they managed this time to stop him from getting inside and called the police.
During investigations the defendant admitted that he was drunk when he barged into the women’s room. He also confessed that he had sexually harassed one of them. Then he returned to his room and slept ready to leave the country the next day, but he was arrested.
