Dubai Police busts Drug trafficking gang targeted youngsters via “WhatsApp”

Dubai Police has arrested an Arab gang who has been involved in drug trafficking and organized crime, in which its members traffic narcotic substances among young people of 18 to 30 years of age.

Maj. Gen. Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Assistant Commander for the Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police said that ” the gang used the social media platforms to promote drugs. Upon receiving the payments, they transferred it from one member’s bank account to another until it finally reached the mastermind’s who currently resides at one of the Arab countries”

The operation was given the name “Operation 12” as this number repetitively appeared throughout the case.

From his side, Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, reported that the gang was caught by the Investigation Team that was notified about an anonymous person, who was an employee at a printing office, promotes drugs via “WhatsApp”

“After identifying the suspect, the team tracked his movements and arrested him at his residing apartment where some of the narcotic substances were found.” Brig. Hareb added.

Brigadier Eid Mohammed Thani Hareb, Director General of Anti-Narcotics Department at Dubai Police, said that the gang included a bank employee who abused his position at a bank to receive, pass suspicious transfers and hide the pieces of evidence from the bank management. The total amount of hidden transfers that he had done over two years amounted to AED 12 million. The gang also consisted of four other suspects who were working in different private sectors in the country. The gage members were managed by an Arab mastermind who live outside the country.

All suspects were arrested in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, respectively, and transferred to the competent legal authorities.
