Gulf man penalized for “disturbing” lawyer

Kalba Criminal Court penalized a Gulf man AED 8,000 and confiscated his phone on charges of disturbing a lawyer by calling her 30 times, threatening, and insulting her through WhatsApp.

In details, the lawyer’s brother filed a case in Kalba police station stating that a Gulf man disturbed her by calling her 30 times at inappropriate times in the evening via “WhatsApp”, threatened and insulted her with voice messages containing statements such as “I will take the money from your eyes”.

The plaintiff said before the court that the accused hired her to defend his brother in two cases and was sentenced at the first instance court, which led him to call and threaten her, after telling him that she would not continue if he did not commit to pay the fees.

The defendant admitted the charge saying, “I did these acts in a state of anger, I didn’t have any intention to disturb but called for the purpose of inquiring about my brother’s case.”

He pointed out that what triggered his anger that the lawyer promised that she would get his brother out of prison within six months and she did not fulfill her promise.
