An Asian visitor on trial for bringing counterfeit 3.6 M INR

Dubai Public Prosecution referred a 56-year-old Asian visitor to trial on the charges of bringing counterfeit 3.6 M INR bills equivalent to AED 185,000 with the intention of dealing with them despite his knowledge of its inauthenticity at the airport.

According to the investigations, a Dubai airport inspection officer testified that while he was at work, the accused was caught while coming from a neighboring country carrying a suspicious bag, an amount of 3.6 M INR of 500 rupees notes was found after inspection.

During interrogations, the defendant stated that he did not know that the bag contained cash amounts. The money was then identified as counterfeit at the exchange office at the Dubai Duty-Free in Dubai Airport.

Another witness stated that the accused concealed those bills in a tricky way which forced them to break the bag to reach to it. The defendant admitted that a person in his homeland had handed the bag to him in order to deliver it to another in Dubai without knowing what was inside.
