10 years in prison for a European woman who attempted to smuggle cigarettes contain cannabis oil and cocaine

Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a 10-year prison sentence followed by deportation for a European woman after being charged of bringing 307 electronic cigarettes containing cannabis oil in a smuggling attempt through Dubai Airport, as the first case of its kind recorded last year, it was also found in her possession a box containing 1.4 kg of cocaine.

Customs inspectors seized with her about 4 kgs of electronic cigarette filters and a plastic box containing 1.4 kgs of cocaine, and Dubai Public Prosecution convicted her with bringing and possessing narcotics.

The Dubai customs inspectors suspected the European woman after they had found drugs in her luggage, and after two weeks of her detention the forensic lab reports revealed the materials found in her possession were narcotic substances, but the woman denied the charges against her before the Criminal Court.

The Criminal Court sentenced her to 10 years in prison, and the defense attorney Saeed Matar appealed the ruling explaining that his client did not conceal the electronic cigarettes which indicates that she had no criminal intention, and she was not aware that the cannabis oil was prohibited in the country.

But the court upheld the judgment and she will be deported after imprisonment.
