Dubai Police Forensic Team clears Man in the Death of an Elderly

Dubai Police professionalism and perseverance have recently cleared a suspect in the death of an elderly man when all initial evidence pointed at him.

Dr Khalid Al Breki, a forensic consultant at Dubai Police, said the case started when Dubai Police received a report about the death of a 50-year-old Asian man during a heated argument with a 30-year-old man.

“Initial information made the young man the main suspect behind the elderly man’s death,” Al Breki said.

Dr Al Breki said the young man claimed that he had not assaulted the deceased in any way. “He said the elderly man had initiated the attack aimed a work-related dispute, and that he only dodged the old man’s blows and punches and never assaulted him back until suddenly the attacker dropped dead on the ground”, Dr Al Breki explained.

“A post-mortem examination confirmed the young man’s claims as there were no signs of assault or use of any objects against the deceased,” “However, additional tests and examination were required to determine the exact cause of death,” Dr Al Breki continued.

Dr Al Breki added that further forensic investigations linked the cause of death to a heart attack that had deprived the deceased’s heart muscle of receiving enough oxygen. “Microscopic examinations revealed that the heart attack did not start at the same time of the fight,” “The 50-year-old man had been suffering from the heart attack hours before the fight, and he must have endured the pain and ignored the tingling sensation,” he added.

“The man’s rampage and anger must have caused a significant drop in the oxygen level in the blood (Hypoxemia) which accelerated the deadly heart attack,” he explained.

“Upon determining the exact time of the heart attack, it became clear that the accident happened sometime after the onset of the symptoms. Consequently, the young man was proved innocent,” Dr Al Breki added.

The forensic consultant at Dubai Police pointed out that the results of the examinations were submitted by the General Department of Criminal Evidence and Criminology to the Dubai Public Prosecution that investigated the case, and listened to the testimony of the young man and the witnesses that matched with the medical report results. “The young man was found innocent, and the case was dismissed” he concluded.

For his part, Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, emphasized the keenness of Dubai Police to establish the truth and achieve justice at all costs. He pointed out that Dubai Police is keen to provide solid proves and reliable evidence to convict the criminal and clear the innocent through utilizing the latest technologies, artificial intelligence and medical laboratory tests.

Al Mansouri further hailed the efforts and professionalism of the General Department of Forensics and Criminology for uncovering the truth and solving crimes with scientific evidence and proof, emphasizing that the department has a team of experts and professionals in criminal science armed with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment.
