Abu Dhabi Police warns parents against cyberbullying behaviors that take place on “WhatsApp” groups and other social media platforms to target other students using abusive and offensive words in the absence of parental control.
Police explained that while a number of online study groups were created with the aim of enhancing distance learning, but some students have abused social media platforms and “WhatsApp” groups to practice unacceptable behaviors and bully others.
Parents are urged to closely monitor their children online activities, especially during this current period that requires adherence to the precautionary measures to counter COVID-19 virus, and to stay at home, calling them not to be distracted from their children, and to protect them from online blackmail and abuse.
Brigadier Muhammad Suhail Al-Rashidi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector stressed on protecting children from the dangers of cyberbullying and informing them of the steps to report such practices with the assistance of their families and parents. Abu Dhabi Police is keen spread awareness among children by delivering educational programs and initiatives to support victims of bullying and rehabilitation by psychological and social specialists.
Brigadier Omran Ahmed Al Mazroui, Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate warned against the dangers of cyberbullying among students, and urged parents to build amicable relation with their children since early age, communicate with them and monitor their different behaviors.
