The reopening of UAE mosques for Friday prayers

Dr. Omar Al Hammadi, the spokesman of the UAE government news briefing: In a review of some statistics and figures on the latest health developments within the last 7 days (from 18 to 24 November 2020):

791,519 COVID tests were performed nationwide, a1% increase compared with the previous week. The tests have revealed a 2% increase in the number of confirmed cases with 8,556 new cases.

• The recovery rate has increased by 14%, with a total of 5,614 cases.

• The total number of deaths was 21 cases. Hence, the mortality rate as a result of COVID-19 has become 0.3% for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic in the country, considered one of the lowest rates in the world.

Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri, The spokesman of “NCEMA”: Opening mosques for Friday prayers will include several controls and procedures, including:

• The mosque capacity shall be 30% while allowing prayers in the outer courtyards of mosques with the sermon being broadcasted by loudspeakers. Worshipers must maintain physical distancing and organized entry and exit.

The duration of the sermon with prayer will not exceed 10 minutes, and the mosque workers and volunteering teams will organize the entry and exit of the worshipers.

• All worshipers must wear a face mask and bring their own prayer mat which should not be left or shared with anyone. The Holy Qur’an and all religious books will not be available in the mosques.

The public must refrain from distributing food and water. Mosques in external roads and industrial areas will remain closed.

• Ablution must be done at home. The elderly, children, those who suffer from chronic diseases, respiratory diseases, or weak immunity must perform Al Dhuhr prayer instead of the Friday prayers based on a fatwa from the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa.
