The Dubai Police General Department of Airport Security returned a bag to an Egyptian traveller, which contained all his belongings, travel documents, and $7,000, within half an hour of receiving his report. This occurred after the Traveller accidentally took a similar bag belonging to another passenger at Dubai International Airport.
Brigadier Hamoudah Blsuwaida Al Amri, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, reported that the Traveller, Muneer Sayed Ibrahim, promptly approached the airport police office in the arrivals hall to report the mix-up. “The traveller mentioned that he had mistakenly taken another passenger’s bag due to its similar appearance and colour, expressing urgency in recovering his belongings because he had to catch a flight to China scheduled just an hour later,” Al Amri added.
Brigadier Al Amri confirmed that the on-duty officer quickly formed a team to track the Traveller’s movements from the moment he entered the airport. “They reviewed surveillance footage and contacted Emirates Airlines, where the Traveller had arrived from Cairo. Investigations revealed that his bag had been mistakenly swapped with that of an Egyptian female traveller, who was still in the terminal waiting for her relatives. Unaware of the mix-up, she was surprised when police approached her to explain the situation and return her bag,” he continued.
Brigadier Al Amri indicated that Muneer Sayed Ibrahim received his bag and caught his flight to China, emphasizing Dubai Police’s commitment to upholding the highest security and safety standards in Dubai and its airports. “Our teams are always ready to handle various reports, enhance the travel experience, and ensure a smooth journey for passengers, making certain they feel happy and comfortable during their travels and stay in Dubai,” he noted.
Both travellers expressed gratitude to Dubai Police for the rapid response, which exceeded their expectations. They were impressed by how quickly the bags were returned, allowing them to continue their journeys. This incident reflects the excellent reputation of Dubai Police and the emirate of Dubai on the global stage.
