Dubai: Arab government employee refuses Dh90,000 bribe

Dubai Public Prosecution referred an Asian employee who works at a contracting company to Criminal Court for offering an AED 90,000 bribe to an Arab engineer who works at a governmental entity. The accused requested a manipulation in the amounts of sand delivered to a construction site in return.

Details of the case reveal that the engineer who specializes in technical support for the sand transport operations in the Emirate of Dubai was also responsible for receiving cheques from customers regarding the purchase of sand quantities for construction sites. In October of last year, the accused, accompanied by another person requested 150,000 cubic meters sand for 10 dirhams per cubic meter and handed over 3 cheques to the company’s accountant.

By the end of March, an engineer of the contracting company concluded that the total amount of sand delivered to their company from the municipality was 69,000 cubic meters.
