One dead, three injured in gas pipe explosion in Dubai building

One person died and three others were injured after a gas pipeline explosion in Dubai’s Mankhool area, Dubai Police said.

The injured were rushed to Rashid Hospital, where they are receiving treatment for critical injuries.

Dubai Police officials have cordoned the area since, and evacuated all residents from inside the building. Mountains of building debris was found at the base of the residential complex on Sunday morning.

The incident took place on the sixth floor of the seven-storey building. The explosion tore open the wall facing the building’s parking entrance, causing a large hole and a broken window panel.

An explosion caused by cooking gas leakage at a residential unit in Al Mankhool area has resulted in one death and three serious injuries. Dubai Police secured the area while the victims, all Asian nationals, were transferred to Rashid Hospital.

There were at least 110 apartments in the complex, and all residents have been moved to Golden Sands hotel apartment opposite the building.

Several families and residents were seen standing outside the residential complex on Sunday afternoon.

An Indian resident who lives in the third floor of the building said, “I believe a couple live in the studio apartment. The husband was not yet back from work, and the wife was at home alone. There was an issue with the kitchen gas pipe, and a mechanic had come to repair the issue. That’s when the explosion took place.”

The residents were seen carrying suitcases filled with essential supplies, and moving it to the hotel apartment nearby, or going to their relatives house.

“There was a huge explosion yesterday at 7pm,” said a grocery shop employee. “We were told that two people were rushed to the hospital. They are critically injured,” he added.

“As soon as we heard the explosion, we ran down. There are a lot of families who live in the building,” another resident told Khaleej Times.

“The explosion was really loud. Our entire house shook, and I could smell a gas leak as well. We rushed down with our kids,” said a woman living in the building.

Another resident said, “Fortunately, there were no kids in the flat.”
