Fraudsters hack bank accounts through scam messages

Dubai Public Prosecution warned residents of latest methods of electronic fraud, the fraudsters will send scam messages via phone or e-mail where they tell the victim that the bank has been suspended his card, and ask for his banking account details, and then withdraw funds from his accounts.

“Cybercrime has evolved remarkably in recent years, in light of the continuous technical development,” said Dr. Khaled Ali Al-Junaibi, Chief Prosecutor at Deira Prosecution.

He also warned residents to protect themselves against online scammers who are out to thief their identity or empty their bank account, the scammers trick companies through fake incomplete transactions and ask the victim to resubmit the funds through different accounts.

Another method is via telephone call from unknown person stating that the victim has won a grand financial prize in a raffle at one of the telecommunication companies and provide the unified sim card number so the victim would trust the fraudster and send an amount of money to win the prize.

The fraudsters have also developed ways to deceive job seekers by creating jobs through official job portals and tell the victims that they have successfully been considered for the job and ask them for fund transfer to complete their employment procedures.

Al- Junaibi has affirmed that such messages and calls are illogical as the confidential bank details are not available for the bank employees themselves, therefore the community should be more aware about the fraudsters methods for hacking bank accounts.
