An Arab man on trial for assaulting three policemen

The Sharjah Criminal Court looked into the case of an Arab man charged of physically and verbally assaulting three policemen and threatening to post photos and videos of them in social media while arresting him.

The defendant had been reportedly arrested over a tip-off by a woman for stealing her phone. After the policemen investigation he was caught in a shopping center and requested for his identity he refused and assaulted them when they managed to arrest him. When he arrived at the police station he threatened to post videos of them in social media while arresting him.

The witness confirmed before the court that the defendant was in a shopping center when one of the policemen detained him, he assaulted him and said that he did not recognize them as policemen and spat on him and his colleagues.

The defendant denied the charges of assaulting the policemen, but he confessed to theft the phone.

Therefore, the Court postponed the case to Oct.28, to hear the statements of the other witnesses, while the defendant will remain in detention.
