Abu Dhabi Appeal court sentenced a GCC national yesterday, to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of one million dirhams for offending the country through social media. The court also ordered putting him under surveillance for 3 years after serving his sentence.
His statements were deleted along with his social media accounts he used to commit his crime, after he was convicted of insulting the prestige and status of the country, among some other gulf countries.
The court however, acquitted him from the charge of cooperating with terrorist organizations.
The Prosecution has accused the convicted of insulting the prestige and status of the country and neighbouring countries, with comments that may influence the relations of the country with this country.
