The Dubai Police has recently arrested a man after posting a clip on social media of himself using heroin and taunting the local security forces.
Brigadier Eid Muhammad Thani Hareb, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics at Dubai Police,said that once the video circulated on social media channels, a team arrested the man – An Asian National– and he has been referred to competent authorities for further legal action against him.
“Social media platforms are not meant to be used for bragging about lewd behaviours that offend the country’s social values and subsequently cause damage to society,” he said.
Brig. Hareb called on the public to refrain from sharing or posting content that promoted drugs in any way. “Dubai Police has zero tolerance towards those who attempt to manipulate laws, whether by dealing, promoting or trading in drugs, and also for those who make video clips that contribute to the spread of destructive ideas that are harmful to society,” he said.
According to Article 29 of the cyber-crime law, anyone who publishes information, news or data on a website or any information network or information technology means with the intention of harming the reputation, prestige, or status of the country or any of its institutions can be punished with a prison term and a fine not exceeding Dh1 million.
