UAE Government holds a news briefing on the country’s health situation within the past 7 days

The UAE Government held its regular media briefing to present the developments to the efforts of national authorities to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the media briefing, Dr. Omar Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, Official Spokesman of the UAE Government, highlighted several statistics and data that reflect the national health situation between 28 October and 3 November.

Dr. Al Hammed revealed that 805,579 tests were conducted nationwide from October 28 to November 3, the number of tests increased by 3% compared to last week, and confirmed cases decreased to 15% for the same period.

This week’s mortality rate is 0.4%, the lowest globally compared to the EU of 2.6% and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) at 2.4%, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries (OECD) at 3.0%.

Dr. Al Hammed explained that the person may get re-infected with the same virus after recovery or after taking the vaccination. As the antibodies’ lasting duration varies from one disease to another, where some last for a specific period while others last forever. As well as, viruses mutations and development over time may affect the immunity system and its persistence in the human body.

During the media briefing, Dr. Omar Al Hammadi advised everyone to avoid following false information, take unlicensed treatments from unknown sources, or use home remedies without communicating with licensed health centers.

Community collaboration during the crisis is in everyone’s interest. We must trust the health guidelines set by scientific, medical, and research sources, he added.
