The General Command of Ajman Police responded seriously to a 19-year-old Emirati’s tweet on social media announcing his desire to commit suicide and asking his friends to help him choose a way to get rid of his life immediately.
Ajman Police confirmed that, through its security services and follow-up, as well as the receipt of a report in this regard, the matter was followed and the police reached out to the young man, summoned, and listened to him, where it turned out that he was in a discussion with a friend, which ended up with the tweet.
Police pointed out that some people responded to the young man’s tweet, discussing him and suggesting ways to get rid of his life, which was rejected by some other followers.
Lt. Ahmed Abdullah Al Ajnmai, Director of Media at Ajman Media and Public Relations Department, confirmed that the incident was seriously dealt with by criminal investigation officers. The young man and his father were summoned and conversations revealed that it was just a joke with a friend.
Al-Ajamani also stated: “It was made clear to the young man and his father, that such tweets are taken seriously by the concerned authorities and are immediately dealt with to preserve the lives of all, which costs the time and effort.” he also called on all youth to fill their free time with useful things, especially during the summer vacation, and not to practice acts that may have a negative effect on their lives and efforts, directing them to constructive ways and methods to use social networking sites to preserve their lives, and to avoid being held accountable.
