Consumers will have downloaded 130 billion apps in 2020 across iOS and Google Play, up 10% year-over-year, according to mobile data and analytics firm App Annie’s year-end forecast. Consumer spending across the two app stores will also grow by 25% year-over-year to reach $112 billion by year end, the firm also predicts.
Games accounted for 40% of the total downloads on the App Store and Google Play in 2020. In Google Play, 45 per cent of total downloads was from Games, with an increase of 40% as compared to 2019. Games accounted for 30% of all installs across the App Store, remaining constant from 2019.
When it comes to country distribution, India, Brazil and Indonesia were the countries with the biggest growth in downloads on Google Play, while the United States, Japan, and Saudi Arabia were the largest contributors of growth in downloads on the Apple App Store.
Due to covid-19 pandemic, consumer spending across Google Play and ios also saw a remarkable increase, according to App Annie. In 2020, global spend in the two app stores is expected to hit $112 billion, up 25% year-over-year.
