Dubai: Three year jail term for a prostitute who self-reported not getting her salary

Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a woman, who works as a prostitute, and a man who runs a prostitution business to three years in prison in a case that began in an unusual manner according to the prosecution’s investigation.

The woman self reported to the police informing them that her bosses did not pay her for the work she was doing , and when the police moved to the place she works in they discovered that she was working as a prostitute.

According to investigations, the incident happened last December, when a 23-year-old Asian woman called Dubai Police to say that her managers, a salesperson, 31, and a waiter did not give her her salary at work.

Investigation revealed that the woman escaped from her sponsor who is in another emirate and worked for both men in prostitution voluntarily, and reported that they paid her regularly at the beginning and then stopped paying later.

A police witness said that the two men confessed while being interrogated, that they facilitated prostitution, but denied the woman’s claims that she wasn’t getting her salary. They were all referred to the Public Prosecution, then to the Criminal Court, which sentenced the woman and the first defendant to three years, and cleared the third defendant from the charges.
