Doctors warn against black Henna: Beautiful designs, burning effects

With Eid Al Adha approaching, women flock to beauty centers in preparation for celebrating this occasion, with beautiful “Henna” drawings admired by women. From time to time, many women look specifically for black henna to get more beautiful designs. The strange thing is that females want to do these drawings without knowing the damage caused by their use.

Specialists have warned against the harmful effects of the black henna formula, which is caused by chemicals that may be burning to the skin, causing deformities and infections that may require treatment for several months to get rid of the effects they leave behind, calling on women to stay away from these harmful substances, noting that competent authorities banned their use in beauty centers, urging all beauty center owners to rely only on natural henna from a known source.

Dr. Khalid Othman, a dermatologist in Abu Dhabi, stated that black henna, which is used in many beauty salons, contains burning chemicals, resulting in a type of Eczema, noting that the hot weather condition in the country, contributes to the aggravation of the problem for those suffering from skin allergies.

For his part, pharmacist Hussein Mohammed Haddad, said that black henna is a mixture of natural henna plants and black manufactured dye, so natural Henna natural plant is used on the skin without any side effects; it is also very suitable in the treatment of skin and hair. However, black henna leads to damage, pointing out that the black henna contains a substance called «parvinellendamine», which is a very dangerous chemical, that can cause excessive skin allergies.

Dr. Tarek Amara, a dermatologist in Abu Dhabi, explained that many women resort to black henna instead of natural henna because it’s proven to last for a longer period, and its color is also darker, not as natural as normal henna, and black henna also does not take as long as the natural henna to dry. Pointing out that we shouldn’t compare the two types of henna; because black henna directly affect the skin, leading to sensitivity and inflammation in the skin.

For her part, Dr. Reem Al Habsi, an eye specialist at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that black henna is first cause of cosmetic problems received at Mafraq Hospital. Many women use black henna to stain and intensify their eyebrows, resulting in swelling of the eyes and eyelids, and the creation of annoying itching, calling for the need to avoid the use of black henna or artificial colors in the tattoos of eyelashes and eyebrows.
