The UAE sent a plane carrying 35 tonnes of foodstuffs to Mekelle in the Tigray region, Ethiopia, as part of efforts to support the humanitarian situation.
Mohamed Al Rashidi, Ambassador of the UAE to Ethiopia, said that the sending of food supplies came at the directives of the UAE’s leadership to support the humanitarian situation in the Tigray region.
He also emphasised the UAE’s commitment to a humanitarian approach that supports emergency relief in countries in need.
Al Rashidi added, “The UAE is keen on supporting the humanitarian situation in the Tigray region and seeks to meet the population’s needs resulting from food shortages.”
The UAE also sent six planes carrying 300 tonnes of relief and food supplies, including 200 tonnes of vegetable oil, in cooperation with the World Food Programme to the city of Mekelle last year.
In the same context, the UAE also sent 18.5 tonnes of medical supplies as part of global efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
