Abu Dhabi: Arab actress fined AED100,000 for a Snapchat video

Abu Dhabi’s court of cassation fined an Arab actress AED 100,000 for the charge of using social media to violate the privacy of a person, after filming a video and publishing it the social networking app “Snapchat”. The video was watched by 1,200,000 people on Youtube.

The Court of First Instance had ordered that the actress should be fined, her phone detained. The accused’s attorney appealed to the Court of Appeal, which in turn supported the ruling of the Court of First Instance.

During the last session, the defense denied the charges against his client, explaining that the man photographed was well aware of it, and that his client did not post the video on YouTube, but on her Snapchat account.

The defense pointed out that his client is a well known actress who and has followers and admirers of all nationalities.
