UAE Cabinet approves Ministry of Investment establishment and first national license for self-driving vehicles

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, chaired the UAE Cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan, Abu Dhabi, during which the Cabinet adopted a number of important decisions.

His Highness said:

• Today, I chaired a cabinet meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, during which we adopted a number of important decisions:

• Under the directives of the President, we approved the establishment of a Ministry of Investment in the UAE’s federal government structure and the appointment of Mohammed Hassan Al-Suwaidi as Minister of Investment.

• We approved the appointment of HH Sheikha Maryam bint Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Chairperson of the National Center for Education Quality, which will work on setting up a system of evaluation and oversight for education in the country, and follow up on the quality of outputs, for all stages.

• We have adopted the National Electric Vehicle Policy, which includes building a national network of electric vehicle chargers and regulating the electric vehicle market.

• We approved the first national license for self-driving vehicles on the country’s roads, which was granted to the specialized WeRide company. The company will start testing all types of self-driving vehicles in the country.
