A young Asian man lost his life while trying to prevent a thief -of the same nationality- from stealing car spare parts that the victim kept in his workplace.
The details of the case reveal that the defendant was engaged in the unlicensed business of searching for abandoned spare parts of cars and selling them. On the day of the incident, the accused found spare parts belonging to the victim and started loading them onto his car. The victim saw him and called his brother to prevent him from escaping.
The two argued, and the accused drove the vehicle despite the victim’s trials to turn the steering wheel to the left so that he could leave the area, which led to the car colliding with a vehicle parked nearby and the victim’s death.
The Public Prosecution accused the man of intentionally committing an act that endangers the lives of other people by driving the vehicle recklessly, which caused the destruction of two other vehicles, as well as the charge of carrying out an unlicensed business.
The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance sentenced the defendant to a 40,000 dirhams fine for the crime of unlicensed business. In addition to 10 years’ imprisonment and deportation from the country. The accused is also demanded to pay 200,000 dirhams blood money to the victim’s family.
